About Me

Helming the boatI’m a politics nerd and lover of the outdoors, baked goods, vanilla lattes and record stores. I tweet frequently about all of the aforementioned.

I grew up on a small horse farm in central Illinois. From ages eight to 18 I showed horses (technically, Ponies of America) competitively. I still love to ride when I can. I went up to the Chicago suburbs for college, where I got to edit the campus paper, lead the English honor society, work at the campus coffee shop, lead and participate in some Habitat for Humanity service trips and do a couple undergraduate research projects. (I tried to sleep on occasion, too.)

After a couple years working in government communications and non-profit public relations, I returned to school to get my master’s in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

In my spare time, I love running, doing yoga and seeing live music.
